As an incoming junior at Clyde High School, a small and relatively sequestered school in mid-Ohio, I was lucky enough to come and job shadow here at Hileman Group for two days. For most of my high school career, I’ve known that I wanted to do something in the business world. However, due to the remoteness of my town and the limited job opportunities in our area, I never really knew exactly what in business piqued my interest. In fact, I didn’t know the first thing about it.
I was nervous coming to Hileman Group, as I think most normal people would be, but I was also very eager. This opportunity could help me decide what I wanted to do with the rest of my life, and that was exciting to think about.
Luckily, my nerves were quelled once I got here. Everyone was so nice and willing to talk to me and share everything that they knew (which was an enormous amount, might I add). They also answered all of my questions, which is a feat itself, as there were many, many, many of them.
I spoke to Jen, an Account Manager who filled me in on her profession and what it entails. She also give me a lot of insight into the many things Hileman Group does. I also visited with two interns, Alicia and Jen (a different Jen. I know, it confused me too). They shared their experiences at college, whether that be in their majors, their classes, or their internships. Additionally, Sarah, an Account Coordinator, talked to me about her experiences with the Disney College Program and her current job here.
At the end of my first day, I also met with Lea, the Content Writer at Hileman Group. I was given the opportunity to write copy for part of a website, which was exciting and nerve-racking at the same time. However, Lea walked me through everything, answered all my questions, and even gave me resources to take home with me to help.
I definitely think after job shadowing here I have a much better idea what path I want to take in life. Everyone here was so helpful, knowledgeable, and extremely friendly. I’m incredibly glad I came to Hileman Group and got this amazing experience.
